Family Update 1.4.2022

Dear Union Elementary School District Community,

Welcome back and to the New Year! We hope your family had a restful, memorable, and healthy holiday break. We are back to learning and so excited to see our students and their families. Thank you for a great first day!

We had hoped to say goodbye to COVID 19 long ago, however, 2022 is starting off with a surge of COVID due to the Omicron variant. As you have most likely heard on the news, spread is high and on the rise. Sadly, in our first day back, we are seeing the direct impact on our students and staff.

The continuing pandemic will not deter our dedication to in-person learning; however, we do need your help once again in the following ways:

  1. Get yourself and family vaccinated and/or boosted now. We are hosting vaccination events in your neighborhood schools to make it easy and accessible. Clinics are being held Jan. 4, 2022 at Dos Rios and Jan. 5, 2022 at Hurley Ranch from 3:30 p.m.-6:30 pm. Visit us on Facebook or contact your school for additional information.
  2. Wear a mask in public indoor spaces. This helps prevent the spread!
  3. Sign your child up for weekly COVID 19 pooled testing, its easy, convenient, and free! It offers you peace of mind and identifies COVID accurately and quickly. To sign up, contact your school.
  4. If you or your child is sick, stay home and get tested. We partner with GoGetTested for on-site weekly testing and will test your child if they are symptomatic. However, if your child is healthy, they need to be at school every day! We have missed too much learning time already.
  5. Be patient with one another and we will get through this together. Just like grocery stores, delivery services, and all other employers who are facing staffing issues, school districts too are faced with staffing challenges. We are doing our best to cover bus routes, answer phones in a timely manner, return emails and calls, while also ensuring classrooms are covered, lessons delivered, and meals are served. We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate these current and future hurdles. We will do our best to minimize the impact to your child and family; however, there may come a time when a classroom must stay home, or a bus route is late or cancelled. Please understand that if this happens it is because we have no other options.
  6. Consider becoming a Union Elementary School District #62 employee. We are a great place to work, right in your neighborhood, and offer a variety of employment opportunities including clerical, human resources, maintenance, transportation, food service, teaching, and classroom support positions, just to name a few! Visit our website at www.uesd.org and click the Join Our Team tab at the top or call 623-478-5005 to learn more.

By taking these steps we can put COVID on the run and get back to the vital business of uninterrupted teaching and learning. Union Elementary School District’s mission is to inspire hope and empower all children to courageously pursue their goals and dreams. This mission is what has guided us through the pandemic and what propels us forward. Hope is not wishful thinking; it is having a vision for the future AND the plan for how to get there. We all have a part in that plan, and we cannot succeed without you. Thank you for doing your part in this most important mission, so that all our students will succeed, no exceptions!

Most Sincerely,

Kristine Morris

Superintendent

Sinceramente,

Kristine Morris

Superintendente
