General Education Intervention Team (GEIT)

The role of the GEIT program is designed to support school and district level staff increase student achievement, increase successful promotion from grade to grade, increase instructional time, and increase teacher capacity to employee classroom interventions.

Who benefits from GEIT?

All general education students who demonstrate any academic or behavioral concern that has not been resolved through classroom adaptations in the form of differentiated instruction and or accommodations.

What is GEIT?

The General Education Intervention Team is a collaborative group of educators who come together within a formal process to generate additional supports for struggling students and to then monitor the effect of those supports. The team continues to meet until and effective solution is found for each student in each area of need.

Parents are also part of the GEIT team for their individual child and provide input on their child's likes, dislikes, strengths, areas of concern, development concerns, and or medical considerations.

What is the process before GEIT begins for an individual student?

The district ensures that all students have access to research based primary instruction.

The district ensures that all instructional staff receive training in differentiated instructional methods, accommodations, and interventions to meet student needs.

All teachers monitor the academic and social progress of all students within their class.

All teachers take steps to provide additional support for students who are not making progress in any area.
